Free Pencils!

Ok, so while I love what I create through my Zentangle, it is primarily meditation for me.  I’m not much of a traditional fine artist – my eye-hand coordination isn’t great (yep, I had to go to “special gym” as a kid), I have a hand tremor that’s better some days and worse others, and, well, let’s just say that there’s a reason my fine art focus was photography!  🙂   Still, I love to play in that area and a friend posted a link recently that was pretty cool. Derwent, the colored (or, as they would say, coloured) pencil maker, offers a...

Well, good evening, everyone!  So, I have this friend.  She’s a dear lady, sassy, funny… but she is EXPENSIVE!  More accurately, knowing her is expensive.  She is the best cool new product, great deal, neat thing finder ever.  (Yes, Sharon Payne, I’m looking at you!)  Mostly, I resist.  Mostly. Sharon on FB:  Look at this cool thing and what a great deal!! Me (and many others):  OMG, that is so wicked awesome.  I must have it! Interior dialogue (much abbreviated): I waaaant it!!!! Touchstone, Zenstone

Touchstone: “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.” Muhammad Ali I do believe, strongly, that we are all called to help one another through this journey we call life.  I do some of the typical stuff: donate money, time, etc.  But my favorite, absolute favorite way of service is Random Acts of Art.  I don’t know who came up with the name but I read it and fell in love.  Who couldn’t use a little more art in their day?  A little visual pick-me-up for the daily grind?  Here’s my latest: A Zentangle tile I completed while on a 2...

Book Review: Made in the Shade

So, my artsy little heart did a happy dance this evening even though my kids were still rampaging around energetically awake upstairs instead of sleeping.  I’d come down from putting the little monsters darlings to bed and there, on my doorstep, was a package.  I love packages.  Even if it’s only a free sample of some product (hey, I got a really cool keychain flashlight yesterday!) or those cheesy inkjet printed return labels that you get multitudes of when you once donated to a charity a zillion moons ago. This wasn’t a free sample of some unusable product, this...

I See 2:30 a.m. Frequently But Rarely So Sadly!

My copy of Yoga for Your Brain (Sandy Steen Bartholomew) came yesterday and, when I got off my night day job and into bed at 1:30 a.m., I dove right in.   This morning, the first thing I did after feeding the kids breakfast?  Called the publisher to order some to have available for students.  It’s that good. I’ve read several Zentangle-oriented books and, frankly, haven’t been impressed in terms of their usefulness to students .  This, though…  this is the perfect book for students working with a CZT or as a follow up to a workshop. She begins with a brief...
